And even if you’re not a fan of the keto diet, you also might be thinking about this, because it seems like eggs don’t have carbs at all, but is it true? I will answer this question soon!

So, without further ado, let’s figure out what is the ketogenic diet and understand whether eggs are keto or not.
What's the Keto Diet All About?
So, you’ve probably heard about the keto diet, which has been around for many years and getting more popular over the last time. What the ketogenic diet is based on? Let’s find out!
The ketogenic (keto) diet is based on consuming high-fat, moderate-protein, and low-carb products. It was developed in the 1920s by Dr. Russell Wilder at the Mayo Clinic and was originally a treatment for epilepsy, but after some time it got very popular due to its weight loss and health benefits.
It’s great that we understand what it is, but how it works? Well, the main idea behind the keto diet is to get your body into a state, which is called “ketosis”. Your body, instead of burning carbs, burns fat, and this diet is something that might come in handy while trying to lose weight. To get into ketosis, you need to consume way less carbs than you’re used to (about 20-50g per day), but you need to eat healthy fats and proteins as well.
Are Eggs Keto-Friendly?
The short answer: Yes! Absolutely! Eggs are the base of the ketogenic diet since they’re very low in carbs, high in protein, and have plenty of good vitamins, like A, D, E, and B12, as well as minerals like selenium and choline.
Also, eggs are very versatile and can be used in numerous recipes, both for keto and non-keto diets. Even though I’m not on a keto diet, this product has been one of my favorites for a long time, and I don’t regret that I eat eggs. I go to the gym regularly and eat about 2-3 eggs per day, this ensures that I have enough protein and my muscles grow.
How Many Carbs in Eggs?
Eggs are a low-carb superstar. A large egg (about 50g) contains about 0.6 grams of carbs, which is excellent for those following the keto diet. You may be thinking that the majority of them is in egg yolks, but not in egg whites because egg white should consist of only protein (that’s the way thought), but turns out that carbs are not in egg yolks, but in whites along with protein. Egg yolks, on the other hand, consist mainly of fat and protein.
Feel free to eat eggs on the keto diet, it’s an excellent choice and this will even make your keto journey more exciting, as I mentioned above, eggs are extremely versatile when it comes to cooking with them
How to Make the Most of Eggs on a Keto Diet
The versatility of eggs makes them a good choice for any type of diet you can ever imagine. You can enjoy them boiled, fried, scrambled, poached, or even baked as a part of desserts or pastries. If you’re on the keto diet, you have tonnes of keto recipes out there.
Just google “best keto recipes”, and you will find numerous of them!
FAQs
Q: How many eggs can I eat on a keto diet?
Honestly, there’s no limit to eating eggs when it comes to the keto diet. You can as many eggs as you want (of course you shouldn’t eat 20 eggs a day, 1-2 eggs are recommended, but if you feel you want more, you can eat up to 3-4 eggs a day, there are nothing bad in it)
Q: Can I eat egg whites on a keto diet?
Yes, and there’s nothing bad in it. You can absolutely eat them and enjoy egg whites in different forms and recipes.
Q: Are all types of eggs keto-friendly?
Generally, all types of eggs are keto-friendly. But, I think, it's a good idea to choose organic, free-range, or pastured eggs whenever possible because they have higher nutrient content and better living conditions for the chickens.
Q: What other keto-friendly foods can I eat with eggs?
The options are practically endless! Some popular choices include avocado, cheese, bacon, spinach, mushrooms, and low-carb vegetables like zucchini or bell peppers.
Q: Can I eat store-bought egg production on a keto diet?
Some store-bought egg products, like liquid egg whites or egg beaters, can be keto-friendly. But I’d definitely check out the labels, as some may contain added sugars, preservatives, or other non-keto ingredients. Not sure about egg whites, just buy normal, whole eggs and enjoy them instead!
There you have it! Eggs are great for the keto diet, they are the perfect food for any other type of diet that doesn’t prohibit eating eggs. Because of the eggs’ versatility, you can get creative and eat plenty of great dishes or mix other keto-friendly products with eggs to get a good dish that you’ll be enjoying. Keep in mind that it’s very important to find a balance and don’t overeat eggs since this might lead to bad consequences in a long run.
